Is it possible to recover lost contacts after your phone gets updated? There are some methods to do that, so you do not need to be afraid.

Smartphone users are freaking out and trying to recover lost contacts when they find out that some (or even the entire) of their contact list has been wiped out. It creates a huge problem to the smartphone user because they may lose very important contacts. As you probably know, compiling your contact list is not an hour long activity. It takes months, and even years, to do it.

What is the reason for this issue? It is likely to happen because your operating system or OS receives upgrade. Most users will report that their phones will lose all of the significant data when upgrade is done to their smartphones. Does this mean you should not upgrade your phone? It is definitely not. OS upgrade is important since it helps your phone functioning smoothly and removing bugs and malware.

Luckily, there are methods to recover contacts from phone. This way, you can regain your contact back after getting an OS update. The methods that would be explained are for Android and iOS users since they have different interface.

Recovering Deleted Contact List for Android


When your Android gets updated, you believe that your contact list is deleted. However, the OS are simply hiding it from the view. To recover contacts from phone with Android OS, you can definitely try on the following two methods.

Method #1: Contacts
  1. Access the dialer then head to Contact tab.
  2. Click three dots which are placed at the top right corner.
  3. Choose Contacts to display.
  4. If your phone hides some contacts, there must be some contacts which are not ticked. You can tick it to make it appearing again.
  5. That way, you already recover lost contacts.
You may thing that the first method is too tedious. You have to tick in multiple contacts just to make it appear again in your list. If you do not fancy that, you can use the second method.

Method #2: Account of Google
  1. Access your “Settings” menu.
  2. Scroll through until you find “Google”. Tap on it.
  3. Scroll through the options until you find written “Services”.
  4. You will have the option to restore all data that are lost. Thus you can restore lost contacts with this method really easily.

Recovering Deleted Contact List for iOS


What about iOS phones? People are worried about its lineup especially since iOS is regularly updating its OS system. It is great for users but they are afraid of losing their contact list because of that. Two methods are provided to recover contacts from phone that has been updated, though.

Method #1: Contacts
  1. Head toward “Settings” menu on your phone.
  2. Scroll through until you find “User name” option then head to iCloud.
  3. Scroll until you see “Contacts”.
  4. If the toggle is in “Off” mode, you can turn it on so that your contact can be viewed again.
  5. Check your contact list to see if you recover contacts from phone.
If you do not like using your method, or somehow it does not work, you can connect your phone to your computer. Thus, you will be able to use iTunes for the recovery process

Method #2: iTunes
  1. Connect your phone to your computer.
  2. Access iTunes on your computer.
  3. Select your phone (it should be on the list of connected device) then choose the latest file backup date.
  4. Click on “Restore backup” and you should be able to recover contacts from phone.
The next time your phone gets updated and your contact is lost, you do not need to panic. There is always an option to recover lost contact no matter what your phone is. You should regularly backup your data, though.
